Mr. James E. Purvis, 75, former owner of Purvisí on the Oxford Square, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at St. Frances Hospital in Memphis, TN. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at Springhill Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Flynt officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 noon until 2:30 at Waller Funeral Home.
Born in Lafayette County, MS, Mr. Purvis was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church. An avid Ole Miss fan, Mr. Purvis also enjoyed working with youth and especially enjoyed his time coaching the youth baseball and basketball teams in the 1970s and 1980s. Later in life, he found his favorite time was spent with his grandson, Matt. Mr. Purvis was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Lovan.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Clay Purvis of Oxford, MS; one son, J.B. Purvis and his wife, Anna of Oxford, MS and one grandson, Matt.
