Biography
Mr. Cletis Harold Vinson, 95 , retired service technician from the University of Mississippi, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at The Mississippi Veterans Home in Oxford. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. David Ard officiating. Burial will follow in Bluff Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 P. M. till 6 P. M. in at Waller Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. till 11:00 A.M. at the church prior to the service.
Born on January 28, 1917, Mr. Vinson was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was originally an ordained Deacon of Bluff Springs Baptist Church in 1935 and later transferred his membership to Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Vinson was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, a member of the O. D. Smith Masonic Lodge for 50 years where he was a 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of the Grand York Rite of the Mississippi Chapter and the Council of Oxford. He was a Seaman 1st Class in the Navy during World War II, and a DAV.
Survivors include one daughter Virginia Manning and her husband Phillip of Brandon, MS; one son Vince Vinson of Oxford, MS; two sisters, Emma Vance of Myrtle, MS; and Lillian Bishop of Aurora IL; three brothers Quinton Vinson of Etta, MS; and Clinton Vinson of Waycross, GA; and Rev. Vance Vinson of Byhalia, MS. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
In honor of Mr. Vinson’s service to our country the United States Navy flag will flown at Waller Funeral Home.
