Wilborn Lane Jones

June 18, 1928 - May 12, 2011

Mr. Wilborn Lane Jones, 82, retired Staff Sergeant of the United States Army and retired ROTC Instructor from Fulton High School in Atlanta, GA, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS in Oxford. Funeral services will be Monday, May 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Sockwell officiating. Burial will follow in Carey Springs Cemetery in Pontotoc, MS. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born in Carroll County, MS, Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Staff Sergeant. Mr. Jones served his country during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Carey Springs Baptist Church and Woodsman of the World. Mr. Jones owned Midtown Fish and Feed and he was affectionately known as "The Fishman".

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his father, Harvey H. Jones; his mother, Hester N. Jones; a son, David Jones; a grandaughter, Kasey King; a great-grandaughter, Kiah Robinson and two sisters, Ruth Lindsey and Lucille Hillhouse-Ditoillo.

Survivors include his wife, Mardria "Margie" Jones of Paris, MS; three daughters, Tona King of Houston, TX, Nita McVeigh of Olive Branch, MS and Martha Ann Jones of Germantown, TN; three sons, Richard Jones, Harvey Jones and James Jones all of Paris, MS; two sisters, Ouida Macgregor of Milton, FL and Helen Walker of Southaven, MS; one brother, Russell Jones of Crest Hill, IL; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Jones' memory may be made to: LeBonheur Children's Research Hospital, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 50 North Dunlap, Memphis, TN 38103-9984.

In honor of Mr. Jones' service to his country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
