Mrs. Ruth B. Russell

Mrs. Ruth B. Russell, 72, retired teller at Union Planters Bank, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at her home in Oxford. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Flynt and Rev. Troy Young officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Russell loved Ole Miss Sports and was a charter member of the Ole Miss Quarterback Club. She was also a member of the Tip Off Club, the Bullpen Club and the Oxford Youth Baseball Association.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Russell of Oxford, MS; one daughter, Leah Russell Miller of Oxford, MS; one son, Brian Keith Russell of Oxford, MS; one sister, Ruby Jean Williams of New Albany, MS; two brothers, Milburn Browning of New Albany, MS and Albert Browning of Etta, MS and one grandchild.

Mrs. Jimmie Lee Evans Childress

Mrs. Jimmie Lee Evans Childress, 67, seamstress, died at her home on Friday, May 9, 2008. The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Frierson officiating. Burial will follow in Fulmer Cemetery in Harmontown, MS. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home.

Mrs. Childress was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending as her health permitted. She enjoyed playing Bingo and loved her children, grandchildren and her family.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Ray Childress and his wife, Paquita, of Oxford, MS and Ricky Childress and his wife, Paula, of Oxford, MS; four sisters, Jo Ann Bennett, Mary Beard, Nita Beard, Cathy Tidwell all of Oxford, MS; one brother, Ellis Wayne Evans of Oxford, MS; three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Faulkner

Mr. Billy Bruce Robinson

Mr. Billy Bruce Robinson, 83, retired district superintendent with Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company in Greenville, MS, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Hermitage Gardens in Oxford. The funeral service will be Friday, May 9, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. at Oxford-University United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Black, Rev. Frank Poole and Rev. Claire Dobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville, MS. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home.

Mr. Robinson was a member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Double Circle Sunday School class. He enjoyed all Ole Miss sports, was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a charter member of Cadis Deer Camp and a former Rotarian and Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Robinson of Oxford, MS; two sons, George Bruce Robinson and his wife, Rachel of Oxford, MS and David Lee Robinson of Oxford, MS; one sister, Frances Ward of Cleveland, MS and four grandchildren.

Mary Cecile Dornbusch King

Mary Cecile Dornbusch King, 84, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at her home in Oxford. The daughter of William Kette and Mary Alice Kirk Dornbusch, she was born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She graduated from All Saints’ Episcopal Academy where she was Valedictorian of the Class of 1940. She attended Mississippi State College for Women before graduating from Mississippi State University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Menton King; a son, William Travis King; and a grandson, Allen Lee Murphy, Jr.

She is survived by her brother, William Kette Dornbusch of Vicksburg; three daughters, Katherine Cecile King, Margaret Elizabeth King, and Carolyn Kirk King Bramlett and her husband Eugene, all of Oxford; a son, Allan Reed King and his wife Nancy of Lexington, Mississippi; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Oxford University United Methodist Church on Friday, May 9 at 1:00 with Reverend Warren Black and Reverend Claire Dobbs officiating. Visitation will be held in Wesley Hall at the church from 11:00 until 1:00. Interment will follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will include her two grandsons, Travis King and Taylor Maddux; as well as Nathan May, Pat Tatum, Tim Tatum, and Dave Tatum. Designated as Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Thomas, Stephen Bramlett, William Strickland, and Bill Tatum.

Mr. Richard Adams Smith

Mr. Richard Adams Smith, 66, retired Agronomist with the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 30 years, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi. The funeral service will be Thursday, May 8th at 2:00 pm at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Tyro Cemetery in Tyro, MS.

Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Tyro Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University with degrees in general biology and chemistry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Gurley Crockett.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Moore Eubank Smith of Oxford, MS; two daughters, Leah Eubank Dossett of Hermosa Beach, CA and Lisa Eubank Whalen of Poughkeepsie, NY; two sons, Kent Elliott Smith of Holly Springs, MS and Stephen Richard Smith of Brookhaven, MS; three sisters, Ann Smith Welch of Long Beach, CA, Faye Smith St. John Woods of Byhalia, MS and Bonnie Smith Schwartz of Germantown, TN; three grandchildren, Jackson Whaley Smith of Holly Springs, MS, Zoe Covington Whalen and Luke Whitman Whalen both of Poughkeepsie, NY.

In honor or Mr. Smith’s service to his country, the flag of the United States Air Force is being flown at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nina Christine Coleman Edwards

Mrs. Nina Christine Coleman Edwards, 94, retired seamstress at Big Yank, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at Yalobusha Nursing Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 7th at 2:00 pm at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford with Rev. Rick Glidewell officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Mrs. Edwards was the widow of Lavester Edwards and a member of Paris Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. She was a graduate of Tula School and attended the University of Mississippi for three years where she played basketball. Mrs. Edwards was a former school teacher in Delay and Tula.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Coleman Edwards and his wife, Virginia, of Oxford, MS and Charlie Lowell Edwards and his wife, Holly, of Water Valley, MS; one brother, Paul Coleman of Tula, MS; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren.

Mr. James Clyde Butler

Mr. James Clyde Butler, II, 64, a retired Circulation Librarian at the University of Mississippi, died Monday, April 28, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford, MS. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fayetteville, TN.

Mr. Butler was a veteran of the United States Army where in served as a Sergeant during Vietnam. During his service in the Army, he was a military policeman from 1968-1970. Mr. Butler was a 1966 English Graduate of Southwestern in Memphis, TN and taught English at Davis Elementary School in Huntsville, AL for two years. He went on to earn a Master’s in Library Science at the University of Mississippi and became Senior Librarian at the J. D. Williams Library on the Oxford campus. He retired from the University in 2002 as the Circulation Librarian. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and was an avid reader. He also created numerous Christmas ornaments and pieces of jewelry for his family and friends. Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents, James Claude and Martha Young Butler, and by his sister, Martha Suzanne Butler Williams of Huntsville, AL.

He is survived by a nephew, Michael Rand Williams of Arab, AL and one brother in law, Edgar Rand “Randy” Williams of Huntsville, AL.

The family has asked that memorial contributions in Mr. Butler’s memory be made to Friends of the Library, J.D. Williams Library, 1 Library Loop, University, MS 38677.

Mr. Julian Elmo Fudge

Mr. Julian Elmo Fudge, 90, a retired maintenance man with Shelby State College in Memphis, TN, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at his residence in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Fudge was a former member of Oakhaven Baptist Church in Memphis, TN and more recently attended Delay Baptist Church. He was the widower of Eva Ruth Robertson.

Mr. Fudge is survived by four sisters, Hilda Howe of Tupelo, MS, Emma Jean Fancher of Smellville, GA, Mary Hall of Memphis, TN and Edna Earl Barlow of McComb, MS; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one son in law, Ray Addison.

The family has asked that memorial contributions in Mr. Fudge’s memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.

Mrs. Mary Elma Denton Johnson

Mrs. Mary Elma Denton Johnson, 82, retired deli clerk at Kroger, died Saturday, April 26, 2007 at Graceland Care Center in Oxford. The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Sockwell and Reverend Charles Keel officiating. Burial will follow in Delay Cemetery. Visitation will by Monday, April 28, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home.

She was a member of Delay Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Secretary. She was the assistant Postmaster of the Delay Post Office. She retired from Kroger, where she worked for 23 years. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Toy and May Denton; a son, Mark Derrick Johnson; a sister, Juanita Crowson; and her brother, Darrell Denton.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, J.C. “Dick” Johnson of Oxford, MS; one son, Jerry Johnson, and his wife Becky, of Oxford, MS; two sisters, Betty Johnson of Oxford, MS and Gwen James of Greenwood, MS; one brother, Bill Denton of Oxford, MS; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Christopher Shane Keel

Mr. Christopher Shane Keel, 31, a carpenter and sheetrock hanger, died Friday, April 25, 2008 in Panola County, MS. The funeral service will be Monday, April 28, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Sockwell officiating. Burial will follow in New El Bethel Cemetery. The visitation will be Sunday, April 27, 2008 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

Shane loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Sandra Keel.

Mr. Keel is survived by his daughter, Shannon Marie Johnson of Oxford, MS; one son, Christopher Keel Kramer of Oxford, MS; four sisters, Cynthia Keel Rogers of Oakland, MS, Gloria “Jeanie” Brumfield of Water Valley, MS, Linda Sue Sandifer of Columbia, MS, and Ashley Dawn Sumrall of Columbia, MS; and by a brother, James Walter Lee, Jr. of Bakersfield, CA.
