Obituary for Richard Lynn Patton

Mr. Richard Lynn Patton, Sr., 85, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS. The funeral service will be Monday, February 19, 2018 at 1:00 in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Derrick Simmons and Rev. Terry Floyd officiating.  Burial will follow at Paris Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday, February 18, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. and prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.  

Born in Paris, MS to the late Melba “Frenchie” and Howard Patton, Mr. Patton served as Corporal in the United States Army.  He retired as maintenance manager from the USDA Sedimentation Lab and was a member of First Faith Baptist Church in Sardis, MS.  An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed, hunting, fishing and riding four wheelers.  He especially loved his John Deere lawn mower and found great joy tending to his perfectly manicured lawn.  His family remembers his beautiful smile and engaging personality, noting that he was very social and never met a stranger.  Mr. Patton was a member and past president of the East Oxford Water Association.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Broome; a granddaughter, Alexandra “Alex” Shields and a brother, Billy Patton.  

Survivors include his wife, Doris Patton of Oxford, MS; a daughter, Paige Jamison and her husband, Brent of Pontotoc, MS; three sons, Richard Lynn Patton, Jr. and his wife, Michele of Paris, MS, Erik Broome and his wife, Terri of Batesville, MS and John Massey and his wife, Lauren of Oxford, MS; a brother, Charles Howard Patton and his wife, Doris of Byhalia, MS; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.   Memorial contributions in Mr. Patton’s memory may be made to First Faith Baptist Church, 3254 Sardis Lake Drive, Batesville, MS 38606.  

In honor of his service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
