Obituary for Larry Lynn Hollowell

Mr. Larry Lynn Hollowell, 71, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS in Oxford.  The funeral service will be Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Buster Wilson and Rev. Fish Robinson officiating.  Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Waller Funeral Home and again prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the church.  

Born in Lafayette County to the late Robert Lee and Velma Leona Hodge Hollowell, Mr. Hollowell was a retired maintenance superintendent with Emerson Electric.  As a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, he served as assistant Sunday school superintendent.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors, working grass cutting jobs and worked as maintenance superintendent at Camp Lake Stephens.  Mr. Hollowell was the last active fireman of the original nine men who founded the Lafayette County Volunteer Fire Department.  His years of work and volunteering in public safety led him to be named Volunteer Fireman of the Year on October 24, 2001.  In addition to his public service as a volunteer firefighter, he participated in the Civil Defense Organization.  Mr. Hollowell was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Earl and Doris Hollowell. 

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Leggitt Hollowell of Oxford; a daughter, Tammy Thomas and her husband, Brian of Pontotoc, MS; a son, Kerry Lynn Hollowell of Oxford; two brothers, J.E. Hollowell of Jackson, TN and Harold Dean Hollowell of Batesville, MS; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
